2 bridging the GAP.

I was so excited to see Lorna Simpson and her daughter featured in both the print ads and window displays for GAP's holiday advertisements. They are both gorgeous! Being that she is an amazing African American photographer/artist, but not a celebrity, its exceptional for her to be showcased on such a national, mainstream platform. For those who don't know, Lorna uses photography and words to create works that speak volumes about the black female form. Here are a few of my favorite works by her. She has a great series called "kitchen table" that I could not find via google, but if you can, let me know! Its difficult to read the wording in these photos but they are the largest I could find. 0 money, or lack thereof.

so everybody that knows me is aware of my current financial situation. i like to refer to it as chronic broke-itis. with no real job, i'm only making just enough money to put in my mouth and gas tank.

but today i was looking at the senior exhibition in the art department and i realized i DO have a way to make money: i need to sell some of my art!! the least expensive piece of art i saw was $100 and i definitely feel like i have some comparable pieces that i could sell. i'd be sad to let them go, but times are hard! lol so ebay is gonna be my venue of choice, we see how that goes!

here are some of the pieces im thinking of selling...if you're interested let me know!

0 counting down!

i cannot wait until thanksgiving! for whatever reason, i just feel like its gonna be a good one. although it will be bittersweet as my family marks the one year anniversary of my Uncle Anthony's passing, i'm craving a day to just be stress free and with the fam. and eat! lots!

nevertheless, as the end of the semester quickly approaches, my work is steadily piling up. i feel like i have a grip on it but i definitely can't waste any time. i'm proud to say that my gpa this semester should be better than any i had at Carolina.

last week i stumbled upon an artist by the name of Kris Lewis. he does incredible portraits of contemporary women presented in a kind of renaissance format. here is one of my favorites from the bunch. click on the pic for a better quality version.
click here to check out the rest of his work.

he also did an illustration of my Thom Yorke, the lead singer from my favorite band, Radiohead, which makes me love him more! looking at his work really makes me want to pick up a brush again, maybe experimenting with oil this time. perhaps that's what i'll do over Christmas break?

happy friday!

0 hello.

so there are only 6 weeks left in the year 2007 and it amazes me how much different my life is now than it was this time last year.

some things have changed for the better and some much worse, but i do know that with each day I'm learning more and more about myself. and life!

most of all I'm learning that planning is always preliminary so why stress?

being back at home is more uncomfortable than i could have ever imagined.

i don't like to complain so whenever i feel the urge to just lash out, i try to meditate and my favorite way to center myself is to try to make my mind so quiet that i can hear a single bubble pop.
hence, the name of the blog, which was inspired, i must add, by my fabulous sister,
who is a constant inspiration to me nowadays. if i could be half as cool as her, i'd be chilly! :)
