2 what i do for hours and hours each week

So, as most of you know, I'm studying Interior Design now. The great part about this degree program is that I get to try a lot of different things, some that I love and some that I don't. But one of my favorite parts of interior design is doing renderings --> drawings that closely resemble a room, piece of furniture, home accents, you know, the works!

So in one of the studio classes that I'm taking that's all we've been doing. Some of the people in my class really struggle with drawing anything..... but I love to draw so it's a fun challenge for me. The woman who teaches the class is an architect and a great renderer. She's really a good teacher and seemingly a nice woman, but she was doubting my ability to draw this leather chair on ordinary bond paper and make it look realistic! So you know me, I had to prove her wrong. :) Below is the photograph that I worked with and the second is my drawing. I think I did a pretty good job don't ya think? Especially since I did not trace this, I drew it from observation.....

3 family dinners.

Most of my mom's extended family lives in Greensboro. Her cousins and their family/friends have a monthly dinner and they rotate who hosts, so this month my mom decided to invite everyone down to Garner! So today I went home and spent the afternoon with family. It was fabulous. SO good to be around people that love each other and can just eat and have a good time.

Speaking of... pretty soon I'll be inviting some of you (meaning the people who love me and read my blog) over to my new place for dinner! Once I finish decorating my room.....

Have a great MLK day!

6 just so you know....

Today is January 14th, which means that we are exactly one month from "Single Awareness Day". I am a person who has never enjoyed this day and is usually inclined to wear all black on this supposed day of love. So when I walk through every retail store and there is already an entire isle devoted to pink and red CRAP that nobody really wants, I wonder, does anybody else despise this ritualistic fodder as much as me? I would like to make the day into something positive and meaningful.... but its hard when all my memories associated with Valentine's Day are tied to resentment, disappointment and even disdain.

Nevertheless, this year I am determined to make it a good day, or at least not a bitter one. So leave me a comment and let me know what you do to make it less of a commercialize crock of s%&$ and more a sentimental happy occasion.

0 what time and patience can yield.

so when I was younger I used to love playing with legos but I always got really frustrated and quit before I finished a project. Then I moved on to Kinetix... remember those? They were like Legos but you had to use tools and the final product moved! I remember one time making a huge ferris wheel in Mr. Modest's living room. Ha!

Anyway, I stumbled across this amazing artist that creates sculptures out of legos. His name is Nathan Sawaya and his stuff is pretty amazing! Check it out below and at his website www.brickartist.com.
