1 scholastic pursuit

The advantage of interior design blogs is that it makes the practice of design accessible for everyone. One of the disadvantages, however, is that just like any summary of a profession, blogging leaves out so much of the process! We (myself included) tend to focus on the fun part, the shopping, crafting & decorating of it all, and forget to enlighten our readers about the not so fun planning that goes into it. I know that a lot of what I studied in school I probably won't use in the everyday practice of interior design, but a good portion of it I do think is vital to being an excellent interior designer.

With that, take a look at this outstanding portfolio from recent graduate Barbara Pschirer. Her portfolio gives a great representation of how interior designers work from inception to completion. Job well done Barbara! ;)

5 pick a pouf

Who doesn't love a good pouf? They can add a punch of color to your room, and are both comfy & function at the same time. Lately I've been spotting them all around the web in fun girlie colors. I love the variety of geometric prints, leather, velvet, twill & even knit! How cute would these be in a little (or big!) girl's room? Click on the ones you like to see where to buy!

5 recreate furniture

South African designer Katie Thompson believes nothing should be thrown away. In fact, this student of dadaism seeks to push the boundaries of what's luxurious. In comes Recreate Furniture! Katie has created a line of furniture stemming from her collection of vintage items and it's so cool. I would have never thought of using an old suitcase to create a plush side chair or ottoman, but Katie makes it look great.

Love the color of this side table with a lucite top!

How cool is this lamp made from an old typewriter?

These are just a few Recreate collection; there are lamps, seating, accessories and even lighting to see! To learn more about Katie's design philoshophy, see the rest of the collection and maybe even buy a custom piece, check out the Recreate website.

6 a little paris in savannah

Armon and I got away from the hustle and bustle of the city over the labor day weekend and spent some time exploring Georgia's oldest city - Savannah. This harbor city is full of history and culture and we had a great time just relaxing! I really enjoyed walking around the city admiring the architecture from several different eras, and stepping into the cute little shops on Broughton St. My favorite was The Paris Market & Brocante.

Upon entering the store your greeted with divine smells of burning scented candles mixed with espresso drifting from the small coffee shop in the front.

An art nuveau Paris Metro sign stands tall in the entry way, immediately letting you know this store is filled with vintage goodness! Here are some pictures that Armon snapped while we were browsing.

This little chair was so perfect, I would never sit on it!

And Armon wanted to take this little guy home... not for $1000 though!

If you have the chance, you should definitely take the time to visit this little gem. It's two stories of a well edited vintage collection plus a little spot to rest your feet and have a drink. Can't make it to Savannah? Lucky for you they have a great website + blog !

3 fit for a princess

The always fabulous Kim Myles recently made over a young girl's room for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. What an honor to be able to grant someone's wish using your talents!

Kim & Miss Claire - who gets to live in this fabulous room! ;)

I love that she created a beach theme without looking cheesy. The colors and the accessories compliment the scheme without screaming BEACH.

Love this rug that looks like sand! And every girl needs some purple, pink and ruffles right?

Kudos to Zgallerie for donating $1000 worth of goods to make this happen! See the before pics and get details on what Kim used here. And leave her a comment while you're there! ;)

5 inspired by: kind of blue

At the beginning of my high school years I had an obsession with jazz. While everybody else was listening to the Backstreet Boys and Pink, I was listening to Billie, Ella, Sarah, and the list goes on. Don't get me wrong, I loved pop music too, but I would spend hours a day soaking in as much jazz as I could. My favorite was and still is Miles Davis. I loved his music so much I felt like I was falling in love with him! To this day, Kind of Blue is one of my top 5 albums of all time. I haven't discovered a jazz album that envelopes me in the same way.

1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8

I imagine Miles' home to be sleek, tailored, and very masculine. I love mid-century modern interiors as much as I love jazz - and these new pieces have a great retro feel. The YSL pumps and Chanel lipstick are there because he was known to be quite the womanizer! And how cool is it that Dogfish brewery created a beer in honor of Miles' other iconic album, Bitches Brew?

If you don't know Miles Davis, get to know him! And feel free to email me if you'd like me to design a interior space based on your favorite music artist or album.
