bowing to societal pressures is pretty low. that is misery. i would rather be miserable artist that undervalues my expertise. but i do not think sticking to what you know will make you miserable unless that is ALL you do. Im pretty miserable but I know that I know nothing and that makes me happy.
I agree! It's so sad to see talented people do what they think they "should" do instead of what they're best at.
I think when she said "stick with what you know" she meant not taking the initiative to learn new things; if you never learn anything new, how can you know that what you're doing is the best you can do?
And I hope that you're not too miserable!! Life's too short to be unhappy

LOL, I think that applies to ANY profession! (Or at least those of us in any creative profession, including marketing ;-))
