0 happy friday

It's finally starting to feel like fall here in Atlanta and all I wanted to do this morning was grab a cup of pumpkin spice coffee, a good book, and curl up in a hammock like this one! I hope your weekend is full of relaxation.

Until next week,

0 artist spotlight: radcliffe bailey

I had the pleasure of visiting the High twice this month to check out the phenomenal exhibition on Atlanta artist Radcliffe Bailey. I had a special connection to his work because he's heavily influenced by music, in particular jazz piano! He repeatedly used piano keys in his work as well as sheet music & even the body of a baby grand. I took some snapshots with my iPhone just to give you a glimpse.

The exhibition was titled "Memory as Medicine"

Most of the pieces were multi-layered mixed media works like this one where he incorporated family photos given to him by his grandmother.

Here's a closeup of the same piece where you can see the texture of the paint and other materials beneath a thick layer of polyurethane.

My friends Dani & Loren standing in front of one of my favorite works in the show!

A dramatic installation piece composed of 1000s of piano keys took up an entire room...

And another piece featured a deconstructed baby grand piano.

And lastly, here is another vibrant mixed media piece. The entire exhibition was just really cool. His works are filled with history, individuality & vibrancy. Definitely one of the best shows I've been to in a while!

And another cool fact about Mr. Bailey? He's married to the fabulous Victoria Rowell! Unfortunately, his exhibition at the High has ended but you can find information on where it will be next here.

3 working smarter

"Oh! It's Monday again?" That's exactly the words that popped into my head as my eyes peeled open this morning. Where did the last week go? I have a confession, since leaving my full time job my weekly schedule has become more and more unpredictable, and I don't feel like I'm using my time in the best way I could.

I'm all over the place. Designing, teaching, working a part-time job, teaching and splitting my time between friends and family. I feel guilty for just taking time for me! Why? Because I feel like I'm not working smart enough in my productive time. At the beginning of the year I had such a tight schedule that I knew exactly when I had time to work on my business, when I had to work my "day job", and when I had time to play.

Today, I'm determined to start working smarter instead of harder. I need to find that balance between doing what I have to do, need to do & want to do. I have a tendency to go go GO without being strategic and I recognize that I sometimes need to take a moment to think.

Dayka posted this awesome video on Friday and I think it's a great way to start of the week! Check out the video below for a little Monday Morning Motivation.

1 magic mosaics

Look closely.

These stunning metallic ikat patterns are not wallpaper....'s mosaic tile!

Can you imagine how FAB this would be in powder room? Or in a contemporary kitchen as a backsplash?

1 fashion + decor

Get into this photography from Aaron Ruell! It marries high fashion with high style interiors.

Alexander McQueen against a high gloss red door and studded wall? Genius!

The mirror... the table? Cute little pink teacup & fishnet glove? I want it all!

Glitter walls!!! I have to do this at least once, in someone's space!

Hope that starts your 4 day week off right!
