6 new! at room & board
Room & Board is quickly becoming my go to retailer for fresh modern, but classic quality furniture & accessories. While perusing their new spring items, I was thrilled to see their new Matisse print collection and the fun Piper bed, which comes in 8 bright colors. Immediately I began to design a tween girl room in my head. Picture two of these twin beds in a soft-grey wall room, with a fun floral rug and that adorable pink glider.
Have you seen the new collection? What do you love? If you're in Atlanta, go visit the showroom on Howell Mill; it's beautiful!
PS - Today is the last day for SingleBubblePop Design Studio Facebook fans to get 25% off a new project. Don't miss it! I still have space in February.

10 artist spotlight: daisy giles
Meet Daisy Giles. This Minneapolis painter captures the delicate balance of vulnerability & strength of women in a way that I have not seen in long time. Where I first found her work online I cannot remember, but I've been somewhat cyber-stalking her amazing portraits for a while now. When I saw this stunning self-portrait on Fly last year, I was stunned by her growth and so excited for what Daisy has up her sleeve for 2011.

Daisy is currently accepting commissions for portraits. Catch her now before you can't afford her anymore! Like her page on Facebook for more of her work & tell her one of her biggest fans sent you!

4 style icon: coretta scott king
In a way, Coretta Scott King was the first Black First Lady. A woman of grace and intelligence, Coretta was a classically trained singer & violinist with a heart of gold. I can imagine ladies of the mid-century idolizing what she wore and what she had in her home. There's no doubt that she became a symbol for what a woman could be in a time where women were often ignored.
I found these photos of Coretta in her home and it inspired me to imagine what 1960s decor may have lived there with her.
Singing and teaching piano with the 3rd generation of Kings.

On this day that we reflect on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., I can't help to think about the woman that stood by him through it all. After his untimely death, Coretta continued to work in Dr. King's footsteps, right up into the new millennium. Dr. & Mrs. King believed that everyone had the ability to make a change through service. If we push our talents past what's self-serving, we all have the ability to serve others in some way or another. Mine is through design.
How can designers be of service? Watch this video from Emily Pilloton of Project H about how design is making change in my home state of North Carolina.

3 heart of haiti
Last month at the Lavish unconference, I was introduce to an amazing initiative from Macy's to help rebuild the disaster torn country of Haiti. As many of you know, the people of Haiti are a proud people; their history is a story of triumph in dire circumstances. They did not simply a hand-out, but rather a chance to work to rebuild their own. Many of the artisans in Haiti began producing beautiful pieces from the rubble left after the devastating earthquake that hit their home exactly one year ago today. Soon after, Macy's decided to partner with these artists to distribute their work through America in hopes of bringing some dignity and cash back to Haiti.
The line is called Heart of Haiti and the pieces are gorgeous!
These pieces and more are all available on Macys.com and in stores nationwide. They are all affordably priced and one of a kind, handcrafted pieces. As you take some time today to remember those still affected by last year's tradegy, consider giving back while getting something beautiful for your home at the same time!

5 nor black, nor white
Some brands know the value of having an innovative website to present your product line to the masses. Others take it a step further and create an online store front that jumps out of your screen! That's exactly what Bombay based designer duo Amrit Kumar and Mriga Kapadiya did with their website for NorBlack NorWhite; a line full of fun vintage-inspired pieces that pop with color & pattern.
How cute is this website!? You scroll to the right to move through train cars featuring different looks.
And I love every single piece in the collection too. Closer looks below...
On this snowy day, this collection makes me long for summer! to see the full website and more fashion, check out norblacknorwhite.com.

Good morning! There's something special about the quiet interior of a home as the sun rises. I love the peacefulness of these paintings by painter & photographer Maria Stabio, which capture that mood perfectly.
